Development

Wahiba Tourism was created to reposition Sri Lanka as a refined, high-end travel destination for discerning global travelers. While the country is often associated with mass tourism, Wahiba set out to showcase Sri Lanka through a more intimate and elevated lens®

Our Role

We led the experience design for Wahiba Luxury Tourism, shaping how travelers discover, plan, and experience Sri Lanka through a refined, user-first journey. Our role focused on structuring the end-to-end travel experience — from early inspiration and intent capture to personalized journey curation and concierge guidance. We worked closely with stakeholders to translate luxury service standards into a cohesive digital experience, ensuring every interaction felt clear, intentional, and premium. The responsibility extended beyond interface design to defining experience flows, personalization logic, and journey continuity across all stages of travel.

Problem

Sri Lanka’s tourism offering is rich but fragmented, with most experiences packaged for volume rather than quality. The challenge was to move away from standardized itineraries and create journeys that felt bespoke without overwhelming travelers with choices.

Users needed freedom to explore while still expecting a high-touch, concierge-style service. At the same time, the experience had to support complex, multi-day travel across regions, handle diverse traveler profiles, and maintain a sense of discretion and trust throughout. The broader challenge was to shift perception — from Sri Lanka as a destination to visit, to Sri Lanka as a destination to be thoughtfully experienced.

Solution

A curated travel experience that combines guided exploration with personalized, concierge-led journeys to elevate how Sri Lanka is discovered.

Wahiba was designed around the idea that luxury travel should feel guided, not sold. Travelers can explore destinations, stays, and experiences independently, discovering Sri Lanka through carefully curated content that highlights quality, authenticity, and exclusivity. Instead of fixed packages, the experience focuses on understanding how each traveler wants to experience the country — whether through wellness, nature, culture, celebration, or relaxation.

Once preferences are clear, Wahiba’s concierge team refines each journey with local expertise, exclusive access, and thoughtful coordination. Travelers remain involved and informed at every stage, reviewing recommendations, approving changes, and shaping their itinerary collaboratively. This approach ensures every journey feels personal, considered, and aligned with the traveler’s expectations — while preserving the ease and reassurance expected from a luxury service.

Impact & Learnings

Curating Sri Lanka Through Personal Experiences

Wahiba helped reshape how Sri Lanka is presented to luxury travelers — shifting the focus from mass tourism to meaningful, high-value experiences. By emphasizing personalization, discretion, and quality, the experience elevated traveler expectations while allowing Sri Lanka’s culture, landscapes, and hospitality to be experienced in a more refined and sustainable way.

This project reinforced that transforming tourism starts with experience design, not promotion. Luxury travelers value clarity, control, and personalization above speed or volume. Giving travelers space to explore before guiding them leads to stronger trust and better outcomes. Most importantly, technology should remain quiet in the background — allowing human expertise, cultural depth, and thoughtful curation to define the experience.
